The woes of being a creative…

I’m going creatively mad. It’s my last semester at school, which means portfolio class! First assignment includes creating a logo, business card, resume, letter head, & design board to represent…ME!

It’s really difficult for me to pinpoint my design to just one thing because I’m inspired by so many things. I want to include it all so that my design says I am versatile enough to be modern, but really love the cute, vintage look. Throw in some illustrations, random anatomy, quirky photography, and I’m sold!

saturday morning…

I woke up at 7:30am—freakishly early for me—and decided to start the day off with a cup of coffee. I had been meaning to walk over to the other side of my street, which boasts a lovely park (so I am told), but never have the chance or make the time for it, so I thought today is the day. While I was there, I was inspired by the calmness of the Hudson River and all the runners and families with dogs, so I took this video:

Excuse the poor quality, but it was done all with my cell phone and ipod. It gave me the idea to start doing video shorts this way, and then I came across this:

Jason van Genderen’s Mankin Is No Island

Definitely blows my sad little video out of the water, but it’s something to inspire to! It’s so moving, and to be done completely by a cell phone definitely merits the $20,000 it received taking the top prize at Tropfest, NY, the world’s largest short film festival.

Alright so I confess I’m a Gleek. My friend turned me onto the show, and I haven’t been able to stop watching since. I just love music and the show’s renditions of classics (new and old) are done really well. Here’s one from the new episode “Mattress” that I just love:

…my fire escape becomes home to tons of perching birds. I’m not even entirely sure what they are, but I’m guessing they are swallows. I live on the 6th floor of an old brownstone building, and although these little critters leave unwanted “waste” on my window sills and scare me half to death when they flutter away as I walk past my windows half awake in the mornings, they add a certain charm to my apartment.

I recently stumbled across a blog of a girl I know from school, and it inspired me to start blogging again. Some of you know of my old blog that was filled with thoughts, emotions, ramblings, and too much personal info, and although I still want to give some of my insight to the world, I’ve decided to keep this fun, light, and hopefully inspirational.
